Does Schaf belong to Bauernhoftiere or Haustiere? Oberbegriff is one of the German word games built around a single question: which group does this word belong to?
Please note: the whole game is in German. Every word, every category, the menus and the „Warum?“ explanations are written in German, and there is no English translation inside. It is made for German speakers living anywhere and for intermediate learners who already know everyday German words.
It plays like a calm word solitaire in which you sort words by category. Turn cards from the pile, move words between the columns and send each word to the mailbox of its category: Apfel and Birne to „Obst“, Schaf and Ochse to „Bauernhoftiere“.
HOW TO PLAY
• Put a category card with a crown into an empty mailbox.
• Tap a matching word and it flies to its mailbox.
• Stack words of the same category in the columns. Tap the envelope pile for new cards.
• Every level has a move limit. Play carefully and earn up to three stars.
FAIR BY DESIGN
• A word placed in the wrong mailbox comes back and costs no move.
• Undo is always free, plus 3 hints per level.
• No lives, no coins, no waiting.
• Ads never during a level and never in the first level, after that only when you leave the result screen. Videos only when you start them yourself.
WHAT IS INSIDE
• 120 levels in the „Alltag“ pack, free and slowly harder.
• 100 everyday categories, from Obst and Musikinstrumente to Länder Asiens.
• Full mailboxes turn into stamps for your album.

FOR GERMAN LEARNERS
Oberbegriff is a German word puzzle game, not a course: there is no English translation inside, no grammar lessons and no spoken pronunciation, so it is not the right app to learn German words from zero. If you already read simple German, sorting words into groups is a relaxed way to keep your vocabulary fresh, and a new word is easy to look up because the „Warum?“ screen after the level shows which group it belongs to.
