Census is a dedicated Kurotto puzzle — Nikoli's counting puzzle — for players who want a board they can think their way through rather than poke at.
THE RULES TAKE ONE MINUTE
• The grid is scattered with circles, and some carry a number.
• Fill cells. A circle itself always stays empty.
• A circle's number is the total size of the filled groups touching it — each group counted once, however many of the circle's sides it touches.
• Get every number right and the board is done.
IT COUNTS GROUPS, NOT NEIGHBOURS
This is the rule that makes Kurotto its own puzzle rather than a variation on a familiar one. A circle marked 3 beside two filled cells can be perfectly correct, if one of them belongs to a group of two that reaches round behind it. Counting what touches the circle gives the wrong answer; counting what those cells are part of gives the right one — and learning to see the difference is most of the game.
ONE SOLUTION, EVERY TIME
Every puzzle here has exactly one solution, checked before it ships. The hint button shows the next step the board allows, and tells you which idea it used.
PENCIL AND PAPER, ON GLASS
Tap a cell to fill it, tap again to clear it. Press and hold to mark it empty with an X. Run a finger across the grid to mark a whole run at once. A circle fills in once it has its number and nothing around it is left to decide.
