Square Words is a crossword word game built for Android devices that ordinary word games often overlook — square and near-square screens, e-ink devices, compact devices and devices with physical keyboards.

The board comes first. Square Words gives your words as much room as possible and keeps your tiles close at hand, whether you play by touch, type on a physical keyboard or use an e-ink screen.

Build a word, find a clever crossing and make the most of the bonus squares. Play against the computer at four difficulty levels, from Gentle to Strong, or pass the device to a friend for a game together.

See your score before you play. As you place tiles, Square Words shows the words you are making and what they are worth, and tells you if a word is not in the word list.

You can also:

• Play in English or Norwegian, each with its own word list and tiles, including Æ, Ø and Å.
• Keep each player's tiles hidden between turns when playing with a friend.
• Tap or drag tiles into place, or pick a square, type your word and press Enter.
• Use a dedicated e-ink mode with a clear black-and-white board, labelled bonus squares and no animations.
• Choose a light or dark display, or follow your device's setting.
• Keep vulgar words switched off, as they are by default. Slurs are excluded from both word lists.
• Pick up where you left off — your game is saved after every move.

Square Words has its own board layout, bonus squares and tile values. The app's menus and help are available in English and Norwegian Bokmål.
