192.168.0.254 — The Gateway at the End of the Subnet

192.168.0.254 puts the router at the top of the subnet instead of the bottom. Modems, range extenders and a number of ISP boxes are laid out this way.

The 192.168.0.x subnet is the one TP-Link and D-Link equipment leans on most, but the .254 ending is a separate habit: the gateway takes the last usable address so the pool of automatic addresses can run from .1 upwards without a gap.
