Sofra is a heritage cooking app — 209 home recipes from one Beirut kitchen, including 44 dishes from Idlib province. Read every recipe free. Cook with Layla's Lebanese-Arabic voice. Hear the family memories behind each dish. Make kibbeh, esfiha, hummus, fattoush, tabbouleh, knafeh, fatayer, mujaddara, kibe, mahshi — the way they were taught.
Sofra was built around Faten — a generous home cook in our Beirut building, originally from Idlib province, whose cooking and culture we wanted to celebrate. Her recipes are the spine of the app. The Idlib dishes — 44 of them — are, to our knowledge, the first dedicated English-language collection of that province's home cooking. Idlib has long been folded into pan-Syrian and Aleppo cookbooks; this is the first English collection that surfaces it as its own kitchen.
Why Sofra is different:
• All 209 recipes are FREE to read, search, save, share. No paywalls on the recipes themselves.
• Optional membership unlocks the experience layer:
– Full step-by-step voice narration in Lebanese Arabic (Layla)
– Cooking mode (timers, voice cues, hands-busy gestures)
– Faten's family memories — short audio notes about each dish
– Charbel Rouhana's oud music while you cook (composed for our family, pro bono)
– Offline access to all 209 recipes
