Genetic Scoring (GenoScore: DNA relative scoring app) is an Android app that scores potential combinations of biological relatives using a tiered system and algorithm. It allows for selection of generic STR kits and provides a color-coded indicator suggesting whether further collection or analysis is necessary. Green indicates no further collection is required, amber recommends collecting from additional relatives or using additional analyses, and red indicates a low median LR. Scoring is based on an expected median LR for each scenario, adjusted for the STR kit and combination of relatives. GenoScore provides guidance on which relatives to collect, but only DNA analysis will provide the true outcome of a case.
GenoScore is a mobile application for Android platforms. GenoScore scores potential combinations of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree biological relatives based on a tiered system and a scoring algorithm that includes multiple possible relatives, such as spouses, half-siblings, and cousins. GenoScore allows for selection of generic STR kits, based on the expected number of loci in each kit, and to accommodate older and newer STR technologies.
The App provides a general score for each relative or combination of relatives and translates this score into a color-coded indicator (green, amber, or red) that suggests whether further collection of biological relatives or additional STR analyses are necessary.
A green indicator indicates that the selected relatives and STR loci would typically result in a median LR = 1,000,000 or higher, and no further collection of additional relatives is likely required. A median LR of 1,000,000 is very conservative in most cases and should be taken into consideration by the collectors/laboratory.
An amber indicator indicates that the selected relatives and STR loci would typically result in a median LR = from 100 to ~999,999, and it is recommended to collect from additional close biological relatives or to use additional STR analyses.
A red indicator indicates that the selected relatives and STR loci would typically result in a median LR < 100.
Scoring of pedigree/relatives is based partly on a previous system of scoring relatives but updated to include many other possible relatives such as spouses (if children are available), aunt/uncle, niece/nephew, half-siblings and cousins, including combinations thereof.
Scoring is based on an expected median Likelihood Ratio (LR) for each pedigree scenario adjusted for each type of STR kit. Both the STR kit and combination of relative(s) will impact the expected median LR. The scoring is based on extensive simulations performed on many pedigrees, across multiple STR kits (yet unpublished).
Although GenoScore provides guidance to practitioners on which biological relatives are most appropriate to collect, users should anticipate a range of likelihood ratios for each pedigree scenario, and only DNA analysis and matching will provide the true outcome of a given case.
