8th Simtec - 25 years

The Unicamp Professionals Symposium (Simtec) was born in 1997, at the initiative of a group of employees who approached the Dean of University Development (PRDU) with the proposal to hold an event, in an academic format, where professionals, especially laboratory technicians, could exhibit their work in order to demonstrate their participation in Unicamp's effort to fulfill its role in teaching, research and extension.

A Working Group was designated to propose the event. The first edition had the participation of 115 subscribers. The event has been discontinued.

Under Professor Brito, dean, with Professor Tadeu, general coordinator, the event was resumed through the Social Benefits Management Group (GGBS) in 2008. There were approximately 1,500 people registered.

Simtec, a pioneer in its format, inspired other public universities to hold similar events. Case of Federal do Paraná and Federal do Rio de Janeiro.

As it was increasingly incorporating the academic format in presentations, programming, publications, it started to have in its organizational structure the specific work of a scientific committee.

In 2011, a similar event was organized, called the Congress of Professionals from São Paulo State Universities (Conpuesp), in conjunction with the University of São Paulo (USP) and the São Paulo State University “Júlio de Mesquita Filho” (Unesp).

The following editions of 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016 were improving and increasingly inserting Simtec in Unicamp's agenda.

In the 2019 edition, the event was organized by the Corporate Education School (Educorp).

The challenges now are the event in times of recovery and the referrals to holding a 2nd Conpuesp in 2023.
