About this app

MappEMG uses muscle activity data to produce vibrotactile and visual feedback. This muscle-based biofeedback app was developed to be used in music performance, as a creative and learning tool. It can allow the audience to experience the performer's muscle effort, an essential component of music performance typically unavailable for direct visual observation.

MappEMG can also be used as a tool to support motor learning during music practice. This standalone app processes, maps, distributes and display EMG signals acquired from a Bluetooth enabled compatible device. See https://github.com/s2mLab/mappemg-mobile/ for a list of compatible devices.

MappEMG is the result of a collaboration between the Input Devices and Music Interaction laboratory (IDMIL, McGill University) and the Laboratory of Simulation and Movement Modelling (S2M, University of Montreal). This app was developed in the context of a biomedical engineering internship at the S2M laboratory.
