LispApp is a mobile application designed to support speech therapy and to be used for practice at home.
The app has been developed together with American speech-language pathologists. Both the content and structure follow effective methods used in speech therapy for practicing the /s/ sound.
LispApp is suitable for children of all ages, from 3 years old up to the teenage years. However, we recommend that an adult and child use LispApp together – this way the adult can support the child when needed, while also spending quality time learning together.
The structure of LispApp:
Auditory bombardments
– First, we learn what the /s/ sound is like. The child listens to many model words where /s/ appears in different positions.
Listening for /s/
– Next, the child practices recognizing whether /s/ appears in a word or not. This strengthens awareness of the sound.
Oral motor exercises
– Then we practice tongue and mouth motor skills, making it possible to produce the /s/ sound at all. These exercises strengthen tongue control and airflow.
Making the /s/ sound
– Fourth, we start shaping the /s/ sound through the /t/ sound (t → tsss → s). This helps the child find the correct tongue placement and airflow.
/s/ in syllables
– After that, we move to syllable practice. The child works on using /s/ in simple syllables such as sa, si, su, as, is, us.
/s/ in words
– The final section is placing /s/ into words in different positions, as well as practicing common consonant blends.
The app includes a variety of fun activities for practicing speech.
