Abu Hanifah's real name is an-Nu'man bin Thabit bin Zuwatha. In another history it is called an-Nu'man bin Thabit bin al-Marzaban.1 Imam Abu Hanifah was born in Kufah -one of the major cities in Iraq- in 80 H/ 659 AD, and died in Baghdad in 150 H/ 767 AD
His father was descended from the Persian nation, but before he was born, his father had moved to Kufa. Even though he was not from the Quraysh tribe, he was later given the title 'High Priest' and was known as the imam of the Muslims.
This is one of the great privileges of the Islamic religion which never discriminates against the color of skin, ethnicity or between one nation and another. In the view of Islam, humans on earth are the same and equal like the spokes of a comb. There is no primacy for the Arab nation over other nations except by piety
Imam Abu Hanifah is a mujtahid scholar in the field of fiqh and one of the four well-known madzhab imams (Maliki, Shafi'i, Hambali, and Hanafi schools). Abu Hanifah was born during the reign of the fourth Umayyad caliph; Abdul Malik bin Marwan. And during his life, he experienced two khilafahs namely the Umayyad Daula and the Abbassid Daula.
