About this game

Crossroads is an interactive graphic novel that drops you into the lives of Jin, Imani, Jack, and Allie—four teenagers navigating the intricacies of school dynamics at Cross Roads High. Graduation is fast-approaching, and tensions surge as different ‘ism’s and inherited biases surface and test the students’ bonds with teachers, parents, and each other.

Witness Jin's struggle to impress a long-adored crush without exposing his family’s financial stresses. Experience Imani's frustration as she faces racism in her blossoming relationship without support. Join Jack as they grapple with newfound feelings and questions about their gender identity. Walk alongside Allie, who’s growing weary from the daily grind of colonial micro-aggressions and invalidations. Step into the characters’ shoes and ask yourself: What choices would you make? How might you strike a path forward?

Crossroads is designed to prompt critical reflection, empathy, and collective capacity to practice intersectional equity in school settings and beyond.

As you move through the intersecting storylines, engage with the reflection prompts, and take in new concepts, you’ll have opportunities to practice your ability to mindfully:

• CHOOSE how characters respond to challenging conversations and triggering situations, and witness the consequences of different approaches.

• NOTICE what’s happening as the narrative unfolds: when relationships become strained, egos flare, responsibilities are shirked, fractures get mended, and deeper connections are forged.

• REFLECT by hovering in the ‘debrief zone’ after each scene. Take your time to consider the impacts of the pathways Jin, Imani, Allie, and Jack have chosen, while reflecting on the ways the story connects with your own life experiences, biases, and learning journeys.

• LEARN:
o New words and concepts about justice and liberation that pop up in the stories
o To Identify and address inherited biases and gaps in your own knowledge
o How to notice, name, and respond to different forms of discrimination–from anti-Black and Indigenous racism, to homophobia, transphobia and classism

• GROW your emotional and somatic intelligence, self-reflection, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills—essential elements of fostering empathy, social responsibility and resilience.

• TRANSFORM by embarking on this journey with Jin, Imani, Jack, and Allie as together you navigate life's crossroads. The power to drive change is in your hands (and hearts)!

* Crossroads has been crafted by an all BIPOC female + gender-diverse team of first-time game-makers, it features youth whose lived experiences reflect the characters they play, and the content has been guided by input from BIPOC and 2SLGTBQIA+ teenagers.
