WHAT IS A PHONETIC ALPHABET?

• Each word in the spelling alphabet typically replaces the name of the letter with which it starts.
• It is used to spell out words when speaking to someone not able to see the speaker, or when the audio channel is not clear.

NATO PHONETIC ALPHABET:
The 26 code words in the NATO phonetic alphabet are assigned to the 26 letters of the English alphabet in alphabetical order as follows: Alfa, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, Golf, Hotel, India, Juliett, Kilo, Lima, Mike, November, Oscar, Papa, Quebec, Romeo, Sierra, Tango, Uniform, Victor, Whiskey, X-ray, Yankee, Zulu.

Gets everything right except for 9 Says nine. In the military alphabet, it's pronounced "niner" to differentiate from 5.
