About this app

My people, listen to my teaching; incline your ears to what I have to say.
I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter riddles of the past;
what we heard and learned, what our parents told us.
We will not hide them from our children; we will tell the next generation of the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power and the wonders he has done.
He decreed statutes for Jacob, and established the law in Israel, and commanded our ancestors to teach it to their children,
so that the next generation would know it, and also the children who were yet to be born, and they, in turn, would tell their own children.
Then they will put their trust in God; they will not forget his deeds and will obey his commandments.
They will not be like their ancestors, obstinate and rebellious, people with a disloyal heart to God, people with an unfaithful spirit.
The men of Ephraim, armed archers, turned their backs in the day of battle;
did not keep God's covenant and refused to live by his law.
They forgot what he had done, the wonders he had shown them.
He performed miracles before their ancestors in the land of Egypt, in the region of Zoan.
He divided the sea so that they could pass through; made the water rise like a wall.
He led them with the cloud by day and with the light of fire by night.
He split the rocks in the desert and gave them as much water as that which flows from the depths;
out of the stone he made streams and water flow like a river.
But they continued to sin against him, rebelling in the wilderness against the Most High.
They deliberately put God to the test, demanding what they wanted to eat.
They doubted God, saying, “Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?
We know that when he smote the rock, the water sprang up and gushed out in torrents. But will he also be able to feed us? Will he be able to supply his people with meat?”
The Lord heard them and was angry; he attacked Jacob with fire, and his wrath rose against Israel,
for they did not believe in God or trust in his saving power.
Yet he commanded the clouds and opened the gates of heaven;
He rained manna for the people to eat, and gave them bread from heaven.
Men ate the bread of angels; sent them food at will.
He sent the east wind from heaven, and by his power he caused the south wind to advance.
He rained flesh on them like dust, flocks of birds like the sand on the beach.
He caused them to fall inside the camp, around their tents.
They ate to their heart's content, and so he gratified their desire.
But before their appetite was satisfied, while they still had food in their mouths,
the anger of God was kindled against them; and he smote the strongest of them to death, slaying the young men of Israel.
In spite of all this, they continued to sin; they did not believe in his wonders.
Therefore he ended their days with a breath and their years in sudden terror.
Whenever God punished them with death, they sought him; with fervor they turned to him again
They remembered that God was their Rock, that the Most High God was their Redeemer.
With their mouth they flattered him, with their tongue they deceived him;
their hearts were not sincere; were not faithful to their covenant.
Yet he was merciful; He forgave their iniquities and did not destroy them. Time after time he held back his anger, without fully awakening it.
He remembered that they were mere mortals, a passing breeze that does not return.
How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and grieved him in the lonely land!
Again and again they put God to the test; angered the Holy One of Israel.
They did not remember his mighty hand, the day he redeemed them from the oppressor,
on the day that he showed his wonders in Egypt, his wonders in the region of Zoan,
when he turned the rivers and streams of the Egyptians to blood, and they could no longer drink their waters,
and he sent swarms of flies that devoured them, and frogs that devastated them;
