Stellar is a local-first, offline password manager that keeps your passwords and sensitive data exactly where they belong — secured on your device.

Your vault is encrypted with AES-256-GCM and protected by a master key derived through Argon2id. There are no accounts to create and no servers to trust. Back up locally or to the remote storage of your choice. With no central server, there's no high-value target for attackers. We hear every day about password managers getting hacked and identity companies held for ransom, that's the cost of centralization. We don't hate the cloud, but we believe in keeping data close to the user, distributed, not concentrated in one place.

WHY LOCAL-FIRST?
Cloud-based password managers store your vault on their servers. When those servers are breached, every user is exposed at once. In 2022, LastPass lost 30 million encrypted vaults. In 2026, ETH Zurich researchers developed 25 successful attacks against Bitwarden, LastPass, and Dashlane, every one requiring a compromised server. Weeks later, Dashlane's two-factor authentication was brute-forced and encrypted vaults were downloaded.

Stellar eliminates the server entirely. Your vault never leaves your device unless you choose to back it up, and backups are encrypted before they leave your hands. There is no central database to steal, no server to compromise, and no company holding a copy of your data.

SWITCHING FROM ANOTHER MANAGER?
If you are coming from LastPass, Dashlane, Bitwarden, 1Password, or any other cloud-based password manager, Stellar imports your existing passwords so you can migrate in minutes. No data is sent to any server during import. If you are coming from KeePass or Enpass and want a modern interface with the same local-first philosophy, Stellar was built for you. If you have never used a password manager before, Stellar is the simplest way to start because there is no account to create, no subscription to manage, and nothing to configure on a server.

ENCRYPTION
AES-256-GCM authenticated encryption for all record data. Argon2id key derivation with 64MB memory cost, 3 iterations, and parallelism 4. Your master password derives a key that encrypts the data key, and the data key encrypts your records. The master password is never stored anywhere.
