Tallk is an application resulting from the collaboration between Samsung and the Luzón Foundation. Developed by Irisbond based on its Eye Tracking technology. It is a tool to support basic communication and interaction with the environment for specific use for people with reduced mobility and/or absence of oral language, available for compatible Samsung Galaxy tablets.
Thanks to Tallk, you can use your eyes to write using a predictive virtual keyboard and verbalize what you have written. Furthermore, for greater agility in use and communication, the application allows you to add user-defined phrases to your collection so that you can access them and verbalize them at any time quickly and easily. The application also saves a history of used phrases that will allow the user to use them at any time if they wish. The keyboard also allows you to interact with Samsung's Artificial Intelligence-based virtual Voice Assistant, Bixby, to solve different requests, as well as control connected home devices compatible with Smartthings.
How does it work? Tallk's eye-tracking technology uses the tablet's camera to locate your pupils and certain characteristic points on your face. Then, through a series of algorithms and AI, the software translates your eye movement into approximate movements within the screen to access a virtual keyboard and verbalize the text entered by the user. To perform eye-tracking, it is also necessary to identify characteristic points on the user's face, so the entire face must be visible to be able to use the app.
Recommendations before using the Tallk: the user will need an adapted support that guarantees the stability of the device at all times for correct positioning in front of the compatible Samsung Galaxy tablet and use of the Tallk application. References to recommended supports are included at the end of this description. The application can be used with glasses but gaze detection may not be optimal due to reflections or occlusions in the lenses or frame. Once you open Tallk, the application will give you the necessary recommendations and instructions for use.
