About this app

The Fundamental Motor Skills application was developed to help teach and assess children's motor performance. It has 21 illustrative sequential figures, respective animations and evaluation criteria. Four character options demonstrate the execution of skills. Functions as a visual aid for demonstrating fundamental motor skills during instruction, practice, and assessment of motor skills. It can be used to motivate and encourage children to practice. The execution of each skill portrays a proficient model, with specific motor criteria, elaborated from the literature of the area. The criteria help as a reference in the evaluation of performance, instruction and planning of tasks that promote child development.
Motor Skills:
Balance: Balance on one foot and walk over the line.
Locomotion: Running, running sideways, galloping, changing direction, hopping, long jump, single-leg hop, horizontal jump, and vertical jump.
With the ball: Two-handed catching, two-handed passing, one-handed bouncing, one-handed hitting, two-handed hitting, overhead shooting, underfoot shooting, kicking, one-foot volley, and one-foot dribbling.
Resources:
By selecting one of the skill categories, a set of skills are available to choose from. When selecting the desired skill, you will have access to visual resources, performance criteria and evaluation guidelines. A scale with Emojis to be presented to the child after performing the skill helps to assess their perception of competence in performing the skill. It is possible to access the cell phone camera and record the execution performed by the child performing the task to show it later.
Motor assessment makes it possible to verify whether the child can perform motor skills proficiently, based on process and product performance criteria.
Process: indicate a proficient way in which the child coordinates and organizes body segments while performing the skill. They are evaluated based on key positions of the body segments and their actions.
Product: indicates a quantitative measure resulting from the execution of the skill, that is, the result of the motor performance. It is measured on a single specific criterion for each skill, which can vary in terms of precision, continuity, repetition, distance or time.
An Excel spreadsheet and pdf files are available for download through a link on Google Drive, where the scores can be entered.

Teachers and therapists: assist in the teaching and learning process of fundamental motor skills, during classes or therapeutic sessions as a tool for demonstration, motivation and encouragement in the practice of skills.
Researchers: as a visual support in different populations, neurotypical or with some neurodevelopmental disorder, and investigated regarding its effectiveness in teaching and learning processes of fundamental motor skills.
Parents and children: The animations are attractive and fun for children to imitate, which can stimulate the development of fine motor skills and provide a proficient model of performance.
