The Reformed Church (Dutch: Gereformeerd or Hervormd) is a group of Protestant Christian denominations based on the theology of Calvinism, which was started by the Swiss Reformation led by Huldrych Zwingli and later spread in western Europe. In 1999 a survey counted 746 Hervormd denominations worldwide.
One denomination of the Reformed Church is the Baptist Hervormd, who adheres to the Reformed confession of faith and has a Baptist church's view of the sacrament.
The Reformed Church has the motto ecclesia reformata semper reformanda secundum verbum Dei or "the reformed church must continue to reform according to the word of God" which means that the Christian's position on contemporary issues should not be crystallized in the teachings made in the past.
