A Bell is an object that conveys a message via sound. There are various types of bells which can be categorized on their shape, size, material and sound emitted. Different bells produce sounds of different frequencies and timbre. In fact, sound is the distinguishing factor for different types of bells. Undoubtedly the bell sound conveys the intended message. Bells used in places of worship are large and produce loud sound with the intent to be heard by a large crowd. Call bells used in restaurants or hotels have the intent to seek the attention of the attendant. Cow bells are used to keep track of farm animals and Dinner bells are used in farms to announce dinner.

Nowadays Electric bells are in common use. Applications of electric bells include digital alarm clocks, house door bells, subway and train door close bells.
