These 41 Tamajeq proverbs in the Tawallammat dialect (Niger) are classified according to the themes they address. They reveal the concept of Tuareg life, its ideas and values and thus reflect the richness of the wisdom of the Tamajeq culture. These proverbs show how a Tamajeq person sees and understands the world and how one should behave towards the challenges of daily life. They deliver teachings, instructions, warnings and rules of life. They thus constitute a guide to know how to live.
In this application, the proverb itself is written in Tamajeq, then in French, then once again in Tamajeq. The purpose of this application is to contribute to the knowledge of the Tamajeq culture, first of all by targeting the Tamajeq people themselves, then anyone who is interested in it. We hope that the Tamajeq will take more pleasure in reading in their language and, at the same time, will have the pleasure of discovering the meaning in French. We give neither an explanation nor an interpretation of these proverbs. We leave it to the receivers to appreciate these proverbs at their true value and to adapt them to their context.
We thank our friends very much, M Christian Grandouiller and M Mahmoudoune Mohamadou, as well as everyone who collaborated in this great and precious work of this collection of proverbs.
It should be noted that the images accompanying the proverbs are for decoration; they do not necessarily have a direct link with the proverb they illustrate.
