- Get to know the João Ferreira de Almeida Bible:
The JFA bible was translated by João Ferreira de Almeida, a Portuguese minister and preacher of the Reformed Church in the Dutch East Indies.
Simply known as João Ferreira Almeida, he converted to Protestantism at a very young age and lived in Asia, Indonesia and Malaysia, both Dutch possessions in the East. João Ferreira was the first to translate the Bible into Portuguese. In 1654 he completed the entire New Testament, which was first published in 1681.
Almeida began to translate the Old Testament, reached Ezequiel 48.21 and died without finishing the work to which he had dedicated his entire life. Jacobus op den Akker, Dutch pastor, completed the translation of the Old Testament. The complete Bible was published in 1819.
