Ustaz Azhar Idrus was born on 12 February 1964 in Kampung Ladang, Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu Darul Iman.

Ustaz Azhar received his early education at Sekolah Rendah Hj Mohd Sharif, Alor Star, Kedah. After graduating from primary level, he continued his studies at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Darulaman, Alor Star, Kedah until Form 2. When he entered Form 3, he moved to his home state in English school, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sultan Sulaiman, Kuala Terengganu until graduated from form 6.

He has received religious education by talaqqi with several religious teachers around Kuala Terengganu [1]. Among them are:

First teacher: Tuan Guru Haji Syed Mokhtar - Finished about 40 Jawi books by talaqi
Second teacher: Tuan Guru Mohd Tahir - Khatam kitab jawi is also about 25 pieces
Third teacher: Tuan Guru Mohd Hakim - Start delving into Arabic books such as Nahu, Sorof, Usul Fiqh, Mustolah Hadith, Usul Quran and Balaghoh
Fourth teacher: Tuan Guru Haji Hasyim - Deepen the Arabic books in the chapters of Nahu, Sorof, Fiqh, Tafsir and Faraidh
Fifth teacher: Tuan Guru Haji Ibrahim Mesir - Deepening the book Sirah Nabawi and Lughah Arabiyah
Sixth teacher: Tuan Guru Haji Muhammad Zubir - Deepening the knowledge of fiqh & grammar
Seventh teacher: Tuan Guru Haji Mohd Zain (Pondok Lubuk Pandan) - Studying Fiqh, Nahwu, Sorof, Tafsir, & Balahgoh
