8 Beat Story is a mix between piano tiles and visual novels. I think performing songs to progress plot is an excellent idea, but the songs and anime aesthetics was an alright execution. Most songs are a bit similar in its use of rock and techno music, and the character models and voice acting are a bit static. More so, the game is in a language I don't understand. Although I believe the game has more to offer, I have to assume elements like the plot and navigating the game are just average. 3/5.

The rhythm portion of the game is the best I've seen: It flows very naturally, yet manages to be challenging. Even the easy level rhythms are fun to play. Gacha and card-strengthening dynamics are very well-balanced. The stories are also usually interesting, sometimes even captivating, and definitely fun to read. The interface could be more user-friendly. Especially having to return to the home screen for everything becomes a little tiresome after some time. A somewhat permanent quick menu or bottom menu would be nice for smoother navigation. Overall it's a very enjoyable game that IMHO deserves to be much more popular than it currently is.

I have been playing this game along with lovelive school idol project for many many years. Both are equally decent rhythm game. Recommend. However I have to minus 1 star because of no English support. (I have to use google image translator app from another phone to image translate the Japanese words on this phone yet only understand 50% of the game).
