The annual cycle of seasons affects everything around us: school vacations, when festivals occur, how hot it is, and the availability of mangoes. But the seasons themselves may be changing as the Earth's climate gradually changes.
In SeasonWatch, you can join the effort to understand how the seasons are changing. SeasonWatch is an India-wide project to monitor the seasonal cycles of flowering, fruiting, and leaf-flush of any of 100+ common trees. Anybody -- children or adults -- can participate. It's very easy!
Create a user account on the app, and register a favourite tree that grows near you. Then monitor the tree regularly (we recommend once a week), by using the app to record the leaves, flowers and fruits. These are what we call 'regular observations'. By monitoring through the year, and over multiple years, you will build up a long-term picture of the seasonal behaviour of your tree(s), and whether it is changing over years.
You can also record this information on any tree you come across, in one-off observations we call 'casual observations'. This may be something fun to do when travelling to a new place or even taking a walk in your neighbourhood. In this way you can observe trees that you do not intend to re-visit or monitor regularly.
Do consider involving the children around you in this activity as well.
We welcome feedback on email at sw@seasonwatch.in or directly through the app.
Happy SeasonWatching!!
