About this app
The $ uplementa One is an application for evaluation of cost / benefit of supplementation in the dry and is the result of the partnership Embrapa Gado Court and Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul - UFMS.
It is the first application for Embrapa's mobile devices to help farmers in the decision-making of beef cattle nutrition.
This tool allows the small, medium and large producer of beef chain compare the income of the same type of supplementation products from different brands. It also allows to make a comparison with two kinds of different supplementation: supplementation with protein salt and semi-confinement. All this the convenience of a smartphone or tablet that has the Android operating system. No need for internet connection to use it.
It was developed to have an intuitive interface and requiring the least amount of information possible. So fast, you can compare two products within one out of the two strategies, protein supplementation and semi-confinement, or to directly compare one strategy against another.
Once inserted information about the products and the batch of animals to be supplemented, is required to generate the desired comparison, among others, the following data:
- Margin supplementation, which is the difference between the revenue and cost strategy and / or analyte;
- Balance Point for weight gain, or gain whose value equals the cost of supplementation, and the net result equal to zero; and
- Return in Reais for each Real invested.
With this information, the producer can make the choice that suits you best: choose the highest margin, the highest return for every real invested or opt for supplementation of lower breakeven point. Whatever the choice, the tool helps the producer to make a safer decision, allowing to obtain superior results.
In addition to the input data is simple, the application presents suggested values or warnings to typed data that is at odds with the results of research on supplementation in the dry. For example, in the case that the given amount of weight gain with protein supplementation is above 400 grams / head / day, since this is the amount recognized as maximum with this type of supplement in the dry, the user before proceeding you receive a message that the gain is above what would be logical to expect. The same occurs if the user in the case of semi-confinement, place a value greater than 1,000 grams / head / day. There are warning also for user case be doing the evaluation outside the dry season. There are however impediment to proceed comparisons, if the user so wishes, based on their own perception of reality.
Extremely important information for the successful practice of supplementing the app also tells you is the minimum number of troughs to be made available to the lot to be supplemented. The amount varies depending on the strategy (proteinaceous or semi-confinement), the size of the animal and number of animals in the batch. This is a major reason for suboptimal result of supplementation and therefore information that increases the chance of obtaining the potential of the technique in the field.
The application was developed by the Laboratory for Precision Livestock, Environment and Software Engineering (PLEASE Lab) Embrapa Beef Cattle in partnership with the School of Computing (FACOM) of the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS) and is part of the ongoing effort EMBRAPA in providing technological solutions for beef production chain.
