Epicurus (341 BC - 270 BC) was an ancient Greek philosopher. He founded his own philosophical school, called the Garden of Epicure, which is considered to be one of the most famous schools of Greek philosophy.
He was an Athenian citizen, son of Neoclis and Huststras. His father, an Athenian citizen from the municipality of Gargittus, descended from the old prominent Athenian family of the Philaides, participated in the colonization of Samos, where Epicurus was raised ("Epicurus Neocleus and Asclepius, Athenian, of the municipalities of Gargittius, the family of the Philaides. "the Athenians in the Sacred Heart are trained" - Diogenis Laertius 10,1). Epicurus began to come in early from intense contact with Nafsiphani's philosophy on the nearby island of Teos, which removed him from every Platonic glory and turned him to the theories of Demokritos. At the age of 18 he went to Athens for his military and political service along with comedian Menandros. For the next fifteen years of his life, not enough information has been saved. Later, he created his own Philosophical Circle in Mytilene and then in Lampsacos. He returned to Athens in 307/6 BC. at the age of 34, and bought an area in Athens between Dypilon and the Academy, where he housed his philosophical school - the Garden of Epicurus. He taught for 35 years following a quiet and simple life. They were surrounded by men, women, partners and slaves, who were equally involved in the epicurean Garden. Epicurus died in 270 BC at the age of 72.
