GYRILLITHKIA NATURE STUDY PATH
PATH (GYRILLITHKIA) (Circular)
Starting point: VASILOPOTAMOS RIVER (CLOSE TO COMMUNITY SQUARE)
Length: 6.4km
Time: 1 - 1.5 hours
Degree of difficulty: 2
Starting at the centre of the community and heading towards Pharmakas, about a kilometer away on foot, we reach the Gyrillithkia Community Trail.
At the beginning of Gyrillithkia we find the wooden bridge that crosses the Vasilopotamos River.
Along the length of the trail we find XEROLITHIES (Traditional way of protecting the trail from rain and sudden flow of water).
We also find pine trees, wild vegetation and many golden oaks (a species of evergreen hardy oak that grows in Cyprus)
Along the trail there is a continuous alternation in direction of the path (ZIG-ZAG) especially towards the end of the trail (hence the name Gyrillithkia). About midway of the route there is a fountain with drinking water while on many instances along the path, if looking back, the hiker, can see the community in the distance. Also, a noteworthy moment, is the steep, bare mountain peaks of the community which are found along the trail, which the hiker can enjoy.
Once the hiker reaches the highest peak of the trail (the church of Prophet Elias), they can follow the rural road and subsequently the main road to reach the starting point. During this path they can enjoy the breathtaking view and the area’s wild vegetation.
At the end of the path there is the church of Prophet Elias and the Winery.
