DORIS Android is an illustrated guide to underwater species in mainland France and overseas that can be taken "almost" everywhere.
It helps to identify and observe marine and freshwater species to make the most of your scuba diving or strolls on the foreshore.
The application can work in online mode (to minimize the occupied disk space) but can also work offline after downloading all the photos of your choice. It can thus be taken on a trip or a boat and be functional even without a network.
The guide offers several search modes: text, by geographic area, by species ... Each species is presented with a detailed file and photos from the DORIS site (http://doris.ffessm.fr) of the French Federation of 'Underwater Studies and Sports and its Underwater Environment and Biology Commission.
The texts give direct access to the definitions for the most scientific terms.
This mini encyclopedia presents more than 4200 species and 23000 photos related to marine life (This covers fish as well as algae, molluscs, crustaceans, nudibranchs, marine mammals, corals and even some birds, ...)
New files are regularly written by the community of DORIS underwater biology enthusiasts. By default, the new files offered on the reference site are included when the application is updated.
Even if it already fulfills a good part of its functions, we still have lots of ideas to improve it. To help us in this task you can use the bug tracker. (Https://gitlab.inria.fr/doris/doris-android/issues)
Like the DORIS site, the application is developed in a spirit of collective work, it is and will remain free.
