Most people only know the name Bukhari alone. His name is quite short; Mohammed. Maybe it's like being foreign today in Indonesia, because in Indonesia the name usually has 2 syllables or even 3 to 4 syllables.

He chewed Abu Abdillah, or the father of Abdullah. So his full name is Abu Abdillah Muhammad bin Ismail bin Ibrahim bin Al-Mughirah bin Barduzbah Al-Ju'fi Al-Bukhari. Barduzbah is in the Bukhara language which means farmer

He was born on Friday 13 Shawwal 194 H or coincided with July 21 810 AD in the city of Bukhara. Bukhoro or Buxoro is a city in present-day Uzbekistan. So he is known as al-Bukhari, because he was born in Bukhara or Buxoro.

His great-grandfather named Barduzbah used to be a Zoroastrian. Then her son named Al-Mughirah embraced Islam under the guidance of Yaman Al-Ju'fi; a Governor of Bukhara at that time. So he was called Mughirah Al-Ju'fi.
