About this game

You are the greatest magician in the Sublunar World. It is not enough. As a rare Conjunction approaches, immortality is within reach. But the gods have noticed you trying to unlock the doors of heaven. Some demand you ascendā€“or elseā€“while others plot your destruction. There are only two paths for you now, archmage: immortality or annihilation.

"Tower Behind the Moon" is a 400,000-word interactive epic fantasy novel by Kyle Marquis, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-basedā€”without graphics or sound effectsā€”and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

You have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to transcend your mortal state one month from now, in the tower where your magic is strongest. Miss this celestial conjunction and you will die. As you prepare for your ascension, however, you battle increasing dangers.

Your tower is your sanctum, but also a target for enemies you've made over a lifetime of treasure hunting, sorcery, and war. Angels and demons haunt your workshop while mortal princes demand favors and concessions. Your servantsā€“themselves half-gods or moreā€“fight for your attention and scheme to claim the tower for themselves. And the wretched shade of your mentor, who failed to ascend, hints that something out of your past plans to destroy your future.

You hold the keys to heaven, hell, and the outer darkness. You just need to find the door.

ā€¢ Play as male, female, or nonbinary, gay, straight, bi, or ace.
ā€¢ Choose from five different magical paths, each with unique servants and spells.
ā€¢ Travel from the forgotten castles of the underworld to heavenā€™s crooked back-alleys.
ā€¢ Face mad dragons, ruthless angels, cultists, and whole kingdoms of the dead.
ā€¢ Be dreadful and monstrous, or subtle and ruthless.
ā€¢ Uncover the true history of your tower, your mentor, and your long-lost adventuring companions.
ā€¢ Maintain your humanity or abandon the fetters of reason.
ā€¢ Comfort the afflicted or vaporize the annoying.
ā€¢ Dare to seek love at the end of your mortal existence.
ā€¢ Become a demon, a god, an undead lich, a shining immortal, or a living continentā€“if you succeed.

Your weapon: magic. Your enemy: the gods. Your goal: immortality.

One of the harder 'choice of' games - I've played it twice now and still haven't got an ending I'm satisfied with - though the journey there was definitely satisfying. I usually breeze through these while roleplaying a character, but I think this time I'll have to be a bit more strategic to get a perfect end. Choosing your school of magic is great too, as it changes up a lot of the descriptions and puts more life in your replays. Pages initially turned slowly, but that went away on its own.

This is amazing. I found a disconnect on 1st read-through where someone who was dead was suddenly alive again. I think. It was so intense I may be mistaken. Those always bug me. But this story is so compelling and fascinating. I would love to read more of this world. There are so many very challenging & consequential choices. This is so wonderfully complex. It truly takes these stories to a new level. I will spend a lot of time rereading this, trying new choices. Beautifully done, brilliant.

idk if the choices are too complicated or it's just not reader-friendly to know how to continue the story. and the achievement is so absurd. like we have to achieve 75 for both category just for 1 achievement. that means we have to play for a lot of time and that's the sole reason for the author. i'm fine with that actually. but the romance part of the story is too forced. like it's suddenly there for you to pick a romance. just, buy it on your own risk.
