This app never works with the associated head unit (DNX-997XR). It used to, randomly however, not any longer. I've had the head unit installed for a year and a half and most of that time the app and head unit do not seem to work well together at all, especially after an update on the app I received many months ago. I am using a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G smartphone connected to the unit via USB. If you're looking for a better, more reliable system, look elsewhere. Kenwood needs to rid the bugs.

I activated a new phone (Galaxy Note 10+, SM-N975U) on 2/6/2020. I also updated the app at that time. My KENWOOD Traffic has not connected correctly since. After pressing "Connect" the app takes a second and then changes to "Connected". However, I never get traffic or weather, so I am unclear what is "connected". I am giving this app 3 stars because I never had much of an issue prior to the new phone/update. The app rarely connected automatically, but did work when manually connected.

No plans to update app or fix bugs. From the publisher "In respect to your inquiry, there is no plan to update it nor any replacement, so far." UPDATED 6/15/22: After a couple of years of no longer connecting via bluetooth I was finally able to get the app to connect again after saying "PENDING CONNECTION" forever. Even though my phone connection worked, I deleted the Kenwood from my phone's bluetooth list and deleted my phone from the Kenwood's list. Repaired the devices and app connected.
