the original TI-89 Drifter is one of the most polished, finely tuned games ever released on that device, and this is a nearly perfect implementation of that game that captures exactly what made that version so addicting. the only thing I think this is missing is an option to play in the original aspect ratio—being able to see so much further ahead than the TI-89 version makes the tension a little bit less nerve-wracking.

Wow thanks Avril! Great to hear from somebody who also played the original! I agree it's a little easier being able to see more of the track :). I tried to counter this by adding some faster speed modes and taking some other creative liberties haha. So glad you like it as I spent years wondering if anybody would even play it! 😊

Really enjoyed it! The controls make sense and are easy to pick up. though it did take me a second to understand the whole drift mechanic. maybe idiot proof the instructions with something along the lines of the longer you don't touch the controls the better your score multiplier i.e. drift is. I found it by you taking about it in a random /r/programming thread btw. Also no ads or micro transactions :)

Thanks so much for the great review! I agree it's been a little difficult finding the best way to explain the drift mechanic haha. The game is still kinda early access since I'm currently animating the track items and a few other things but I wanted to get the core gameplay out to see if it was worth investing further time into :).
