João Ferreira Annes de Almeida was a Portuguese Protestant pastor and is best known for translating the Bible into Portuguese, which he started at 16 and continued to translate until his death. He translated the New Testament completely and most of the books of the Old Testament (Hebrew Scripture). The translation was completed by his friend, Jacob op den Akker, and was first published in 1753.
