Update: the log in issue has seemed to clear up and the app is working as well as can be expected. Nothing extraordinary, just utilitarian. I like having a banking app, when I can log into it; I continually have difficulty logging into this one. More often than not, when I open the app I get an error before I can even log in making the app theoretically useless.

They've made the app worse. In the old app, and at ATM's, if you deposit a check under $200, the money is immediately available. I just made a $155 deposit (around 3pm) with the new app for the first time, and it didn't appear in my account. Called SMFCU. Apparently, checks deposited before 4pm won't be credited to the account until 5pm. Checks deposited after 5 won't post until the next business day. Buyer beware and just go to the ATM. EDIT: It's now 9:25pm and my money is not in my account.
