About this game

A FreeSoftware (GPL) remake of Andrew Braybrook's classic C64 game Paradroid.

The player takes control of the so-called 001 influence device and must clear a freighter of robots by either shooting them or seizing control over them. Seizing control is done in a small logic subgame, in which you have to connect more electrical connections within 10 seconds than your opponent.

Freedroid (Classic) was developed by Johannes Prix, Reinhard Prix and Bastian Salmela (originally for DOS, then Linux and Windows, now ported to Android). Additional themes were contributed by Lanzz and Andreas Wedemeyer.

NOTE: The PC game was originally written for Joystick, keyboard or mouse control. The Android version is using pelya's SDL port, which offers on-screen overlay 'joystick emulation'. The GPL sources for this Android SDL port are found here:

Paradroid was a revelation when it landed on my C64, and this is an extremely successful port. Looks and plays almost identically to the C64 version, right down to the faintly kludgy controls. Yes, the original game was always like that. Took some getting used to, but well worth the effort.

Edit: Sorry it took so long to see the update. Control is much better now, although a d-pad style would probably be better esp.for positioning the connectors during takeover. Still, vastly more playable & enjoyable. Updated to 4 stars...thanks dev! [Old review] I miss this classic, but this port is unplayable. UI is exceedingly sensitive to the extent of being uncontrollable.

Touchpad controls have been fixed (amonst other minor improvements) in the latest update (version 1.2.0).

The cobtrols are now a lot better than 10 years ago. Thank you for fixing them. The easier levels are playable, but the analog control in the battle screen causes so many mistakes that the harder droids are just about impossible opponents.

Thank you for your feedback! Touchpad controls have been improved in recent versions. I've created a demo video that illustrates gameplay and shows the touch-screen controls in action. Please check it out by clicking on 'Trailer' in the play store or visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLryOyqBz1U directly. I hope this might help.
