This app is for a community of people concerned with inclusion, equity, and respect for our differences. It aims to combat the isolation of people with reduced mobility (PRM) by giving them back control of their travels, while also providing information on accessibility efforts already underway.
The app lists and maps accessible walks and events (we will add locations in a future version). It provides precise details about what to expect and assesses the accessibility level (green, blue, red, black) based on each type of mobility (wheelchair, walking difficulties, stroller, fatigue, able-bodied, etc.).
For this first version, we need the entire community (able-bodied and people with reduced mobility) to contribute data. Please be patient; it will take some time to be able to offer walks and events in all regions.
Here's how to use the app:
1. Use the app to save the routes of your favorite walks. Go to the starting point of your walk, open the app, then tap "Add," then "Start." Leave your phone on during the walk; it will record the route via GPS as you walk. Take photos; you can add them at the end of the walk. Once the walk is finished, confirm your walk. The route will be saved and sent to us. Note: Feel free to record all your walks, regardless of their difficulty. We will review them and assign a difficulty level appropriate to each type of mobility.
2. If you wish to submit an event, go to our website https://lesbaladesdechico.com, under the "Event" tab.
3. We review the information shared and assign an accessibility level for each type of mobility.
4. Once we have completed the initial assessment, the difficulty level can be adjusted. Users rate the perceived difficulty based on the mobility type(s) registered in their account. The app then averages all the ratings to determine a precise difficulty level for each type of mobility.
No more surprises: you know exactly what to expect before you set off. So you can head out with confidence, whether with loved ones or on your own.
