About this app

Hi! My name is James Rogers. I’m a university professor with over 10 years teaching experience, and have used my PhD research and discoveries made by my over 30 member research team to provide learners with resources to help make language learning more efficient. I hope that you find them useful on your journey learning a foreign language.

This app is a collaboration with the best-selling app Flashcards Deluxe, and is ideal for Japanese high school or university students, or adults looking to truly master English. This app contains approximately 2,695 advanced vocabulary with an in app purchase (it comes with 50 free to try it out) to help you master standardized tests, such as TOEFL, TOEIC, and IELTS. It includes a Japanese translation and an example sentence for each word.

Audio for all the contents is included as well. Also included is a custom quiz function which you can use and send your results to your teacher with via email. This app also automatically sends all items you miss often to a special “tough item” folder to make it easy for you to concentrate on them. What’s more is it features one of the most advanced Leitner algorithms on the market to help you learn more efficiently: you mark items you don’t know wrong and they come back more often, giving you the necessary exposure to master them. Items you mark correct don’t come back as often, so you don’t have to waste your time with items you already know. This method is proven by linguistics research to be the most ideal way to learn.

Mastering this app and our other app, 英語マスター1万(an app for mastering general English), should lead to a very high TOEFL score. Approximately half of typical TOEFL vocabulary lists are general English, and such vocabulary are covered by our英語マスター1万app. However, the other half of typical TOEFL vocabulary lists are very advanced vocabulary. Such vocabulary is in the 3,000-7,000 range. This app was created by examining vocabulary in the 3,000-7,000 range, and any items covered by the 英語マスター1万 app were removed. Then, words that correspond to Japanese loanwords were removed.

This app also took a very unique approach. It worked with a “word family” list, but only selected the most common word from that group of words to teach instead of using the word family’s “headword”. For example, “bacteria” is one of the words in our list. But in a word family list, that word is represented by the headword “bacterium”, which isn’t a useful word at all to learn. My team of native English speakers only selected the most useful words to teach, and then they wrote an original example sentence to help learners understand that word’s typical usage.

This app’s English contents were written by myself and researchers Ted Bonnah, Frank Daulton, Jean Paul DuQuette, Phillip Montgomery, and Ryan O'Brien and by translators Yoshiaki Shimada, Kinji Murakawa, Akihito Nishimoto, Shota Shimamoto, and Harue Usui.

We hope our app helps you improve your English!
