"HC And - When mother or father has cancer" has been developed in collaboration between Oncology Department R, H.C. Andersen Children and Youth Hospital, Odense University Hospital, hospitalized children and their families and 10:30 Visual Communication.
HC And is patient information for children aged 4-7 years and aims to prepare and reduce anxiety in children for whom many hospital terms are completely unknown.
"HC And - When mother or father has cancer" is an introduction to a general cancer patient course at the hospital for the youngest children, their family and friends. The information is spoken - by a child's voice - and animation in the genre "Learning through play with tablet/mobile phone/touch screen".
Children in this age group learn and recognize through play and concrete information. Children - as relatives of cancer patients - can quickly be "filled up" with a lot of information. Therefore, HC And is built up of short sequences at child's height, so that "newbies" can start here.
The content consists of 7 staged stories which answer questions about cancer, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Hospital staff can use this material as an educational tool to create a common framework of understanding with the child.
HC And is free to download for everyone.
