About this app

WAR Runner turns your Android phone into a small Java web server. It embeds Jetty 12 with Servlet 6.1 and runs real web applications packaged as WAR files. The apps are reachable from a browser on the phone itself and from any device on the same Wi-Fi or LAN.

🌐 WEB SERVER
• Pick a demo from the list. It is downloaded on first use from the online catalog and verified with a SHA-256 checksum. No WAR files ship inside the app.
• Serve over plain HTTP on port 8080 or HTTPS on port 8443 with a self-signed certificate.
• The screen lists the addresses to open on other devices and lets you copy them.
• The server keeps running in the background with a notification. Stop it from the app or from the notification.
• Downloaded demos stay on the device and work offline afterwards.

🛠️ WEB ADMIN
• Password protected and served over HTTPS only on port 9443.
• Download catalog demos, upload your own Android-converted WAR files, and start, stop or delete them from a browser on another device.
• Sessions expire after 30 minutes of inactivity, and repeated failed logins lock the login for a while.
• All three ports can be changed in Settings while the server is stopped.

INCLUDED DEMOS
• Hello World Servlet: a minimal servlet returning plain text.
• Vaadin Button Demo: a Vaadin Flow view whose click listener runs in Java on the phone.
• Official Vaadin Demo: dashboard, component gallery, products, users and settings.
• Vaadin Bookstore Demo: inventory editing with login (admin / admin or user / user).
• Vaadin Address Book Demo: contacts kept in an in-memory H2 database.

🎯 OPEN SOURCE
The build scripts for the demo WAR files, the demo sources and a guide for converting a regular WAR into an Android-compatible one are published at GitHub.

GOOD TO KNOW
• Requires Android 15 or newer.
• Only one web application runs at a time.
• The server binds to all network interfaces but only advertises Wi-Fi and Ethernet addresses.
• This is an Android experiment: a demonstration of what a modern phone can run, not a hardened production server. Use it on networks you trust.
