About this app

This Android application is an Explanation About Muharram Not the Month of the Prophet's Hijrah By Ahmad Zarkasih, Lc. In PDF format.

The confusion that often occurs among the people when it comes to the beginning of the Islamic new year; namely the month of Muharram is the assumption that on that date; namely the 2nd of Muharram is the date on which the Prophet s.a.w. migration from Mecca to Medina. Even though the Prophet s.a.w. He migrated from Mecca to Medina in the month of Safar and his journey took several days until he finally arrived in the city of Yathrib on the 8th of Rabi' al-Awwal.

The erroneous assumption that often appears also that the 1st of Muharram is the date of migration of the companions of the Prophet s.a.w., that is also wrong. Because the companions of the Prophet s.a.w. did not migrate together, they departed from Mecca to Medina not in one group. They split up and scattered with different entourage on different dates in the period from the end of Dzulhijjah to the month of Safar.

It is also wrong to assume that this Islamic new year; namely the Hijriyah calendar is a calendar that has existed since the time of the Prophet s.a.w; but it is not. The Islamic calendar, or what we call the Hijri calendar, appeared or was just formulated in the 17th year after the Hijrah of the Prophet s.a.w.; namely in the second year Sayyidina Umar bin al-Khathab served as caliph.

At least this erroneous assumption does not often appear before or at the commemoration of the Islamic New Year; namely the lunar new year of the Hijri. For this reason, this booklet is here to rectify this assumption, as well as to discuss in it some of the issues and problems that are often debated among Muslims in the Islamic New Year. One example is the debate and differences of opinion regarding the law of celebrating the Islamic new year.

We will speak one by one, God willing.
