About this app

Suspension Calculator is an assorted collection of vehicle dynamics mathematical models that enable calculation of static and dynamic properties of a vehicle, thereby furnishing data that is required for the development of a vehicle’s suspension system.

The application offers accurate and efficient analysis tools for scrutinizing vehicle characteristics of race cars, passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks. Furthermore, the application incorporates calculators that facilitate mathematical iterations for designing spring and damper based on user targets and system variables.

The mathematical models integrated into the application are listed below:

ANALYSIS OF VEHICLE CHARACTERISTICS

1. CoG Location
• Horizontal location of CoG
• Vertical location of CoG
• Location of CoG of sprung mass

2. Load Transfer
• Longitudinal load transfer
• Later load transfer
• Wheel loads due to kerb strike
• Wheel loads due to aerodynamic forces
• Wheel loads due to banking
• Wheel loads due to gradient

3. Ride & Roll Behaviour
• Ride rate of a vehicle in quarter car model
• Roll stiffness of a vehicle
• Roll gradient of a vehicle
• Anti-roll bar requirements of a vehicle

4. Pitching Behaviour
• Pitch & Bounce frequencies of a vehicle
• Anti-dive characteristics of a vehicle
• Anti-squat characteristics of a vehicle

DEVELOPMENT OF SUSPENSION SYSTEM

5. Spring Design
• Spring rate calculator
• Single stage spring design calculator
• Double stage spring design calculator
• Preload calculator

6. Damper Design
• Damping force calculator
