Abhayacharanarbinda Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (September 1, 1897 - November 14, 1986) was a Gaudiya Vaishnava religious leader and the founder-Acharya of the ISKCON or Harekrishna movement. He himself was a disciple of Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati. The purpose of his life was to spread the Gaudiya Vaisnava doctrine of Hinduism all over the world.
He was born in Calcutta. The name of his former ashram was Abhaycharan Dey. He was a student at Scottish Church College. He was married and had children. After taking sannyasa in 1959, he concentrated on composing Vaishnava scriptures. He then traveled to the United States as a traveling monk in the 1970s to spread his spiritual ideology. He traveled to the United States, Europe, India, and elsewhere, where he made numerous disciples. This great man was transformed in 1966.
