Powered by Flexa, SPEDN makes it possible to spend Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies without needing to cash out to US dollars or load a plastic card. Instead, just take your phone or tablet into any store that accepts Flexa, tap the brand where you’d like to spend your cryptocurrency, and scan your unique flexcode for payment.

LOAD
Tap the coin you want to load into the SPEDN app, and then reveal a unique deposit address in order to easily load the balance of your choice from any other cryptocurrency exchange service.

TAP
When you’re ready to spend, just open SPEDN, tap the name of the Flexa-accepting store where you’d like to use your cryptocurrency, and reveal your flexcode for instant payment at point-of-sale.

PAY
Finally, have your cashier scan the dynamic flexcode that appears on screen. In seconds, your cryptocurrency balance is converted into dollars, covering all or part of your purchase, and your transaction is complete.

SPEDN currently supports Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and the Gemini dollar (GUSD), with many more coins coming soon.

Ratings and reviews

Laughably bad app. Can't get past the sign up process. Directs you to your email address, instructions tell you to open their link from your phone, which launches their app, but then requires to go through the same process. It's an endless loop. Overengineered to a point that it just doesn't work. Instead of just providing a 6 digit verification code in the email, they try to automate the process and fail spectacularly since new users can't even complete registration. Doesn't instill confidence.

There's like 10 merchants on the network. Unless you eat a lot of Chipotle, I don't see this benefitting you. Setup is straightforward. But since I don't eat Chipotle and the other stores don't exist around me, I couldn't test function. Knocked off 2 stars because of the lack of merchants. Makes me wonder if their merchant onboarding is too expensive since I've seen lightning payment processors onboard more locals than Flexa.

I'm sorry, but this app isn't working. I can't register correctly. I get to the step where it asks me to tap a verification link in my email, but the app doesn't acknowledge it. It tells me to open my email, but hitting the link in the email again doesn't do anything other than cause a recursive loop. If I open the email link in Chrome, I get a verification code that I can type in, but it shows up as incorrect. Fail. Lousy experience. My time is better "spetn" on more functional crypto wallets.
