About this game

HopBound is a story-driven psychological horror game that revolves around the surreal mind of Mayumi, a recluse who must journey through an unsettling retro game to come to terms with the ghosts of her past. Through 16-bit horror platformer stages and endless runner levels with gorgeous pixel art, she discovers that her sanity will be tested by something lurking behind the screen.

=====

NOSTALGIC VISUALS
Most of the game's stunning visuals use a palette of only four colors to evoke the retro charm of 90s handheld games.

SPINE-CHILLING AUDIO
Listen to unique ambient music that provide a sense of dream-like dread as you explore the game's sinister levels.

A STANDALONE CONTINUATION
Taking place two years after the events of DERE EVIL EXE, HopBound serves as a continuation of that story. However, users do not need to play DERE EVIL EXE to immerse themselves in HopBound's narrative experience.

HEART-POUNDING MONSTERS
Enemies from previous games are brought back to life and have evolved into new incomprehensible forms.

MULTIPLE GAME MODES
Engage in frenzied platforming in story-rich levels and test your skills in infinite runner levels tailored for people who like competing for high scores on the leaderboard.

MEANINGFUL MACHINATIONS
Going against sequel conventions, HopBound doesn't go bigger and badder for the scale of its story. Instead, the game focuses inward, resulting in a haunting yet meaningful tale.

As choatic and sadistic and the last ones. Hard to control, janky weapon setup, and rage inducing platforming. Somewhat unclear story that requires looking into other sources to really understand but is still engaging. Overall? 10/10, it's every reason why I fell in love with this series. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to chuck my phone across the room again when i replay this, or the next game when it comes out.

When I first downloaded the game, I only saw downtown and thought all it was was an endless runner. I tried getting it again. I figured out uptown. I got confused while killing the boss in uptown. I figured it out and made it to Dere Quest III. Now I can't figure it out and the enemy is awful. I'm too frustrated to even try. I've attempted 20 times and still can't beat it. I'll leave 5 stars when I figure it out.

Much, much less focused on horror than the DERE.EXE games (and with no jumpscares, from what I can remember), which I totally don't mind. This one's a bit less meta, too. With how much content there is, it's worth $2, which is how much ad removal costs, so support the developer! My only gripes are that there's no player stat tracking (death count & playtime) and the bosses feel a bit too difficult to beat without really spamming your attack, which slows the game and makes the bosses much easier.
