About this app

The 'FT8 Radio' app enables an Android phone to receive and send FT8 traffic! This is an experimental software with known bugs, and usability challenges - please be advised. This app is meant for remote, portable, digital SOTA / POTA activations. It 'sucks' for indoors use - use WSJT-X at home instead ;)

See https://github.com/kholia/DigitalRadioReceiverSupport/tree/master/NewApp for detailed instructions, and a list of supported radios.

Please reach out to us (dhiru [at] openwall.com) to get support for more radios.

Use https://pskreporter.info/ for added fun! 73s and see you on the air soon!

Not sure where I can submit bug details. Everything is working on the system, I was able to make contacts on 10m. I wanted to play with the 2m & 70cm band, and when I tune to both those bands it tunes the radio to 44.460 instead of 144.460 and will tune to 30.510 instead of 430.510. All other bands tune properly. I'm using a IC-705 and a Galaxy S21. For a quick fix I'm manually tuning into the frequency after opening the app. Keep up the great work.

Hi Darren. Thanks for reporting this bug! We will fix this bug soon (in next 5-6 days). I am currently attending the LARC amateur radio conference. I am reachable at dhiru.kholia@gmail.com email address. Update: This bug is now fixed in the BETA v125 build of the app. Signing up for BETA builds can be done at NO extra cost in the Google App Store.

I used this app recently with my uBitX during a 6 day canoe trip. I managed to make a few contacts and successful activate a POTA station. The interface isn't great but once you figure it all out it's not so bad to used in the field. I'll keep using this app when portable, it doesn't replace WSJTX but sure makes FT8 in the filed easy. I would recommend this app for field work understanding it's limitations.

This app has been a lot of fun to use. I was looking to put together a small rig to do Parks on the Air Activations. I made my own cables and with a little trial and error, I have been able to make a lot of contacts. So, I'm very impressed with the app as it works well on my Android tablet. Well worth the cost. Dhiru Kholia was very helpful.
