This app was made for (former) students of De Mat. The app walks you through the questions that we use during training when 'working on the Mat'. Based on your learning objective and concrete situations, you are asked questions, such as 'where are you?', 'who has the bag?', 'is it possible or not? Examples are then given of different approaches, with text and images. The app keeps a log so you can discover which approach you often choose and what the effect is.
The Mat was created in 1996 because family members of people with a psychiatric or psychological vulnerability asked for help: my daughter smokes too much cannabis, my son can't get out of bed, my husband doesn't want to take medication. How do I deal with that? The Ypsilon Association asked the then Interaction Foundation to answer this question.
To this end, Tom Kuipers, Yvonne Willems and Bas van Raaij 'de Mat' developed the Interaction Skills training program.
Bureau de Mat provides the training not only to family members, but also to professionals in healthcare and education. Thousands of people have now followed the training. More than 80 De Mat trainers have also been trained.
