Forced Marriage
In a pre-marital study held by a Muslim community in Jakarta, I convey:
“Actually, a marriage contract is a contract made between a man and a man; namely between the guardian of the girl and the groom. The bride is not needed in the contract "
The study participants began to frown, because they were probably surprised by what I had to say. Others not only frowned, but also sharpened their eyes forward. I don't know because I want to pay more attention to the next part that I will convey or I am really surprised too.
I continue:
“Even if she's a girl, even when she proposes, she accepts or doesn't accept, her decision doesn't matter; Because the legal decision lies with the guardian.
The wrinkles on the participants' foreheads were getting bigger and their gazes were getting sharper at me.
"Yes, the proposal, if it is a girl, then the proposal must be addressed to the guardian, not the girl. It becomes useless for all operational applications, even live broadcasts are carried out on certain social media or TV, but the answers to these applications have absolutely no effect.
It's embarrassing, seen by many people, uh when they came to the guardian, apparently they weren't accepted.
Then the guardian's answer is religiously valid. Even though maybe the guardian's answer was short, only with the word 'sorry I don't like you', which was not as long as the answer of the girl who had previously proposed and he answered with poetry while narrating romantic short stories, it was still the guardian whose answer was validated.
That's why the question arises,
"Does that mean it's permissible for forced marriages in Islam? …”
That's why I wrote this little book; so that the presentation in this introductory chapter is not too long.
