BoatSpeedo is a simple to use speedometer app, optimised for sailing and motor boating.

It has a large clear display and simple controls to toggle the speed units between knots, mph and kmh.

It is GPS based and measures speed based on actual distance travelled. This differs from probe or paddle wheel based boat speedometers which measure speed through the water and hence are affected by the speed of the water itself, i.e. tides and currents.

Using for sailing dinghy training in the 0 to 15 knot range. This does one job pretty well - readout stability is good. Portrait and landscape format with the decimals on the same line as the integers. Works really well. No ads. No distractions. Quick updates while sailing, appropriate damping so numbers don't jerk around With sailing we are continuously referring to fractions of a knot to see if we are accelerating or are going too fast and can point higher to keep to our target speed.

It doesn't remember what units you choose . It shows you're phone moving when it is sitting still. When you are moving, the speed jumps all over the place which makes this app useless.

Love that this app just does what you want. Tells how fast you are going with a non cluttered accurate display. Creators.......... Would be ideal to have horizontal orientation too. 5 Stars then lol

What's new

New version supports Portrait and Landscape modes and control to move between them. The app will remember the last setup when starting up again.
