About this app

12 years later... The original Simple Coin Flip - now completely rewritten using modern Android development practices. Still completely FREE (no-ads) and doesn't require any unsafe permissions. Now includes all 50 USA state quarters!

Simply tap the question mark or shake and view the result. Tap the coin or shake to spin the coin again. Verify the flip algorithm is truly random by running the built-in Diagnostic Test and flipping the coin 100,000 times (or more) while watching the results in real-time. (Sorry, no cheating!)

Open source code released to the public domain. Check it out here: https://github.com/banasiak/CoinFlip2

=== What's New? ===

Exactly the same as before (almost), but completely rewritten using Modern Android Development (MAD) standards. Kotlin, coroutines, MVVM, Material 3 with dynamic colors. You know, all the cool stuff. Can you believe I still have the original code signing key for this app?

Unfortunately, I'm not interested in Android Wear anymore, so no watch support. Sorry, but go buy a G-Shock and you'll be happier.

Oh, and Google finally realized that having an official API for loading resources from any app installed on your phone was not great from a privacy perspective, so no more support for "add-on packs". If you bought the Simple Coin Flip Mega Pack in the past, I appreciate it. This new version has all 50 state quarters included for free.

This app has followed me around for years, across different devices, being there to help me make decisions when my brain has gone on walkabout, but my body still needs food to help stop itself from falling down. It's nice to see it get an update. Thank you for saving me from ever needing to search for the quarter I have inevitably misplaced. Update: this review originally ended with a feature request that was addressed and updated within days. Six out of five stars.

WHO CARRY COINS ANYMORE? I think this was the thinking behind this app. It does a very good job of flipping a coin and showing you the results. Not quite a pari-mutuel result ... but, who cares? If you've got to make a true/false decision, this will help. There is some simple stuff the author could have added to make this worth 5 stars: Make the coin say true/false, or yes/no or buy/save. And, I would have liked a way to keep the coin spinning until I decided to stop it. I teach bus driving, and when I have two students, I use this app to help decide who's driving first. Sometimes I have up to four students. If this app would have permitted me to add the first names of the students I would have paid for the app.

Flippin' Fun! Simple. Effective. Love the options! Love the app! ¶ Since everyone is giving their suggestions, I have one: Optional sound effect of a coin rolling to a stop on a metal table. And if you're up to the challenge, display the coin wobbling to a stop! ¶ Thanks for your dedication! 🏆
