The Cortes de Aragón is the parliament of the autonomous community and is the institution in which the Aragonese citizenship is represented. Its headquarters is the Aljafería Palace in Zaragoza, since 1987. They are made up of a single Chamber, are inviolable and are currently made up of 67 deputies, elected every four years by universal, free, equal, direct and secret suffrage.
The Parliament of Aragon exercises its legislative power of the autonomous community, approves its budgets, promotes and controls the action of the Government of Aragon, and exercises the other powers conferred on it by the Constitution, the Statute and the other legal regulations.
The first Cortes of Aragon of the democratic era were constituted on May 20, 1983.
