About this game

Reading Hero is the only reading app that makes a game out of sight-word reading, while providing real-time feedback! We use voice recognition to tell if a word was read correctly, and give feedback with audio recordings from a real teacher! The app uses DOLCH words, which is a research-backed collection of the most common words in the English language (used by schools across the country to assess reading proficiency). The difficulty of the DOLCH words increases as you complete each level.

It is ideal for children ages 4-8 (pre-K to third grade) who are learning to read, or English learners of any age. Best of all, it is completely free, and has zero advertisements! Created by teachers, for anyone learning to read.

My son loves the concept of this game. It's a fun way to practice his sight words. Unfortunately the app still needs work. There were a bunch of times where he read the correct word but the app didn't recognize it. Some of the words that didn't work include up, if, sit, keep, cut and pick. If I read the word, it understood me but it seems like it has a hard time with a kid's voice on certain words. My son got frustrated when it didn't give him credit for the correct word.

This game needs work on speech recognition and needs a way to allow the child to try and sound out words. It also could be a little more forgiving with timing, as it only gives my son maybe 2 seconds to read a word sometimes before it jumps in and tells him he is wrong. Half the words he says right are recorded as wrong answers too. There has to be a better way to decipher whether the player is saying the word that is being asked of them or not. Could be good if they can figure this stuff out.

this is a great idea to use voice recognition to check kids reading however my 4-year-old kid pronounces words imperfectly and the app does not recognize it when he reads a word correctly. also the app stops listening after the kid stays silent for 10 seconds. He also needs to read out loud the sounds of the word first before he can combine the sounds into a complete word, and the app recognizes individual sounds as incorrect word. I think you should work on this great idea to make it work.
